PWD minister PK Ibrahim Kunju said that steps would be taken to upgrade five highways in state to the NH status. He said they have already signed MoU with National Highway Authority of India.
The five highways are Kollam-Theni, Kozhikode-Palakkad, Kozhikode-Muthanga, Kollam- Kazhuthuruthy and Bodimet-Kundanoor highway. A total 191 km highway would be uplifted. The project would be implemented by the state government with central fund. At the same time the widening of NH 47 and 17 to 45 meter would be also undertaken. He said the Mannuthi – Valayar would be converted to 6 lane and Cherthala-Kazhakoottam to 4 lanes. He said a project to uplift 8750 km village roads to national level with the held from NABARD is also on cards.
