Actress Padmapriya gets back to dancing after seven years
The Malayalam audience are familiar with Padmapriya the actress but not theBharathanatyam artiste, a facet that, she says paved the way for her to cinema. The last two days would have definitely changed that perception as Padmapriya along with her troupe enthralled the crowd in dance festivals across the State.
Ask her about the experience and she says, “It’s like a Broadway show. You go around doing the same thing back-to-back in different venues. On a serious note though, it was fun performing in front of a different kind of audience. Going by the response, I believe I have done a fairly good job.” What makes it most interesting for Padmapriya was that she was performing Bharathanatyam on stage after a gap of seven years. “Usually people are apprehensive about facing the camera for the first time. But for me, it was the most natural thing. The same was the case with dance as well. I didn’t feel awkward at all, getting back on stage,” she says.
So, what made her get back to the art form? “I started dancing at a young age. When I became busy with films and studies, dance took a back seat. Also, it was constricting for someone like me, who is not religious, to do something which is so deified. But I missed dancing. When I came back to Delhi from the US last year, I met my dance teacher who had taught me in Class VIII. I went back to her and started dancing again. I felt I should get back to stage performances because I really enjoy them,” she explains.
While Padmapriya says that she’s passionate about dance, she has also committed to a few acting ventures. “I have signed a big movie but I am not at liberty to talk about it. I also have a film with Madhupal that is part of an anthology,” says the actress, who had just finished shooting for Prithviraj-starrer Tiyaan.
