Amala Paul, Tovino Thomas pitch in for 2 Penkuttikal
Tv show scribe-turned-filmmaker Jeo Baby always knew that his first film should throw light on the issues faced by women. He decided to go about the project, 2 Pennkuttikal, by showcasing life from the perspective of two Class VI students.
The plot of the movie, though, grabbed the attention of several people including stars Amala Paul and Tovino Thomas, so much so that they voluntarily decided to be part of the movie. The duo will be seen in cameo roles for the film, scheduled for a January end release.
“I was really happy when they expressed their interest in supporting my movie. Amala and Tovino did not take their usual remuneration,” says Jeo, who is best known for scripting the comic series Marimayam.
“The movie discusses the problems faced by women in our society through the viewpoint of two small girls,” says Jeo. Anna Fathima, who has won State Award for Best Child Actress, plays the lead, along with Shyam Bhavi.
“The lead characters Achu and Anagha bunk class one day and venture out to enjoy their freedom. But this takes them to some of the most critical moments in their lives. The attitude that their parents and teachers show towards the children affects their thoughts and characters,” says Jeo. “After watching the film, Amala expressed her interest in essaying the grown up role of one of the girls.”
The debutant director though makes it clear that it’s not entirely a women-centric film. “2 Penkuttikal is not a movie that speaks just for women, but for humanity as a whole,” he says.
The movie is already selected in international film fests including Busan International Kids and Youth Film Festival, South Korea, Universal Kids Film Festival, Turkey and Buff International film festival, Sweden.
