An action plan to improve the functioning of PWD by the year-end: Minister

KANNUR: An action plan is being chalked to improve the functioning of the Public Works Department (PWD) by the year-end, Minister for Public Works M. Vijayakumar has said.He was speaking at a meeting convened to review public works in Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Palakkad districts here on Monday.Works including construction of roads, bridges and buildings, estimated at Rs.1,048 crore, would be carried out in the next four months.

Repair of roads including National Highways would be completed in two weeks, he said.The Minister directed the officials to prepare estimates and complete pending road works immediately.

The quality of works would be assessed by the Finance Inspection wing of the department.The meeting reviewed works under the stimulus package, Nabard-aided schemes, Vision 2010 projects and Special Component Plan or Tribal Sub-plan.
