Aroor Siddique out of Kerala poll fray as Aroor seat goes to RSP

Aroor Siddique

With the Congress deciding to allot Aroor and Attingal seats to the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) for the May 16 Kerala assembly polls, it has become almost certain that Malayalam actor Siddique will not be in the poll fray.

Chief minister Oommen Chandy and home minister Ramesh Chennithala have informed RSP leaders about the seat allocation. Though the Kollambased party had asked for six seats, Congress, the major ally in the UDF, was willing to give them only five. Siddhique’s name has been doing the rounds as Congress candidate in Aroor.

However, there was opposition from within the party against the move and posters had surfaced against ‘star candidates’. The RSP had the other day announced candidates in three constituencies – Shibu Baby John (Chavara), A.A. Azis (Eravipuram), and Ullas Kovoor (Kunnathoor).
