Popular TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee, who shot into fame as Anandi in the celebrated Hindi drama series ‘Balika Vadhu’, was found dead at her suburban residence today in a suspected case of suicide.
The 24yearold was found hanging from the ceiling at her flat in Bangur Nagar in suburban Kandivali, a police officer said. Another report said she was detected hanging and taken to the Kokilaben Ambani Hospital where she succumbed.
However, no suicide note was found from the flat, he said, adding the exact cause of the death, which occurred around afternoon, will be known only after an autopsy is conducted.
Reason for the extreme step was not yet known, but Banerjee was reportedly facing problems in her relationship with boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh.
Her last status message on WhatsApp read, “Marke bhi muh na tuzse modana” (even after death won’t be turning my face away from you) with a smiley.
Confirming the news, Mumbai police spokesperson Dhananjay Kulkarni said that the hospital has sent a report on the Jamshedpurborn actress’s death.
Police are investigating the probable cause that may have spurred Pratyusha to resort to the extreme step.
A Mumbai police spokesperson said, “Prima facie it seems that she has committed suicide by hanging to a ceiling fan as stated by witness. An ADR (Accidental Death Report) is is being registered at Bangur Nagar Police Station (Mumbai). Investigation is on.”
However, some of her friends and coactors said she would not have committed suicide. “I don’t think it is a suicide.
I think its planned murder,” Ajaz Khan, a coactor of Pratyusha Banerjee, told MEDIA.
Actress Dolly Bindra echoed Khan’s statement. “She (Pratyusha) was strong and cannot commit suicide,” she said.
