The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to field former Indian cricketer S. Sreesanth in the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections, party sources said. BJP president Amit Shah has requested Sreesanth to contest in state assembly polls.
The cricketer is expected to meet Amit Shah, who will arrive at Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.
Sreesanth is presently in Mumbai. According to sources, Sreesanth has informed Amit Shah that he will decide on the matter after discussing the same with his family.
BJP’s central leadership is hoping to field the cricketer in Thrippunithura or Ernakulam.
The leadership is likely to discuss this with state leaders on Wednesday. Apparently, Sreesanth’s fatherinlaw, Hirendra Singh Shekhawat, has close links with Madhya Pradesh BJP leaders. Sreesanth could not be immediately reached for comments.
