THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Civil Supplies Officers Federation has registered protest against the resumption of inspection of supply offices by officials of the Revenue Department.N. Rajendran, president, and Kariyam Vijayakumar, general secretary of the Federation, said in a statement here on Thursday that the inspections were carried out at the supply offices in Hosdurg and Kasaragod taluks of Kasaragod district. They said the Revenue Department had conducted inspections at supply offices in different parts of the State in December last. The inspections were stopped following protest by the Civil Supplies Department staff.
They sought to know why the Revenue Department conducted such inspections when the Civil Supplies Department had the necessary machinery, including a permanent squad under the Additional Secretary in the Food Department. The other agencies were the Finance Inspection Wing of the Secretariat and the inspection wings under the Civil Supplies Controller and the Vigilance Officer.
They contended that the inspections ould only serve to demoralise the staff of the Civil Supplies Department who were engaged round the clock in work such as renewal of ration cards and issue of new cards. The Federation leaders said they had submitted a memorandum pointing this out to the Food Minister and the Food Secretary.
