Congress leader held, let off on bail

MALAPPURAM: Congress leader Rajmohan Unnithan was arrested along with a woman from a rented house at Vazhaparapadi near Manjeri on Sunday night. He was booked under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act 1956.He was given bail by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Manjeri, on Monday.The police were called in by the local people who detained Mr. Unnithan and the woman at the house taken on rent by one Ashraf, around 11 p.m. on Sunday.

The police took them to the station after subjecting them to a medical examination.People gathered outside the police station at Manjeri demanding that Mr. Unnithan be booked for adultery and immoral trafficking.The agitation intensified on Monday morning as the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Janadhipathya Mahila Association, and the CITU joined issue.

KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala has suspended Rajmohan Unnithan from the Congress party pending inquiry in the wake of the allegations against him.The KPCC president said that the decision had been taken with the approval of the All India Congress Committee. Mr. Chennithala has asked Congress leader N. P. Moideen to inquire into the incident and submit a report.
