Dileep may find the pie hard to come by as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is moving to freeze the bank accounts of actor Dilip as investigation extends to his financial dealings that could run to several crores. The ED action comes after the police flagged his shady financial transactions, including black money and benami deals, as part of the actress attack probe.
The police had kept the ED in the loop as they stumbled on such possible activity during the initial interrogation of Dileep. ED investigators will scrutinize the financial sources of Dileep, the financing of his films, and his real estate deals.
Investigators handling economic offenses would question Dileep once the police probe into the conspiracy gets over. Two years ago, the Income-Tax Intelligence wing had submitted to the Central government a report on economic offenses in the Malayalam film industry.
A probe was then launched on the assets of leading actors including Dileep, but it was halted mid-way. The police had information that Dileep had close links with a Dubai-based black money racket. The probe would also cover the stage shows organized or led by Dileep abroad and human trafficking operations that main accused Pulsar Suni was reportedly part of. However, a senior officer in the police probe team said they were focused on the conspiracy case alone and that any information they received on financial dealings were passed on to the agencies concerned.
The police do not take for granted Dileep’s explanation that the sole motive behind the conspiracy was personal enmity towards the actress. The probe team was not ready to believe that he would have assigned a Rs 1.5 crore ‘quotation’ just for that. The police had queried Suni about it when he made his confession. He said Dileep would gain Rs 62 crore if the plot succeeded. However, he could not explain what it meant. At the same time, it is understood that the actress had passed on valuable information about it to the police. The probe team feels Dileep was stressing on the personal enmity aspect in a bid to avoid extension of the probe into his financial dealings. It is expected that more details would unfold as Dileep is put through more interrogations.
