CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury said that his approach to party veteran V.S. Achuthanandan was not based on personal relationship.
Making it clear that he does not support every single issue being raised by Achuthanandan, Yechury said that the newly elected politburo (PB) will decide the future course of action to be taken by the PB commission on the issues relating to the party’s Kerala unit.
“There is nothing wrong in VS wishing me all success ahead of my appointment as the party secretary. It was the media that gave its a political tone,” he said in an exclusive interview to Manorama News. He added that the roles of Pinarayi Vijayan and Achuthanandan in the coming Assembly election will be decided later.
The party general secretary did not reject the resolution passed by the CPM Kerala state secretariat calling VS a renegade. “The resolution was passed on a particular issue. There is no common stance that VS is a renegade. Even if a general secretary engages in indisciplined actions, he will be branded as a renegade,” Yechury said.
He said there was nothing wrong in Pinarayi Vijayan, the then state secretary of the CPM, revealing about the party resolution against VS at a press conference ahead of the party state meet in Alappuzha. Such an explanation was a necessity ahead of the party state meet, Yechury said, adding that factionalism in Kerala unit will come to an end.
