KOCHI: Leader of Opposition Oommen Chandy has said that the State government’s failure to implement the package guaranteed to the Moolampally evictees has seriously damaged the credibility of its land acquisition proceedings across the State.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday in connection with his Kerala Mochana Yatra, Mr. Chandy said that people no longer have faith in government promises when it comes to land acquisition.
When the government guarantees a package people cite the hardships of Moolampally evictees who are yet to receive the government-approved package for their rehabilitation even three years after their eviction, he said.“The impact of government’s failure goes far beyond Moolampally,” Mr. Chandy said.
The government had stopped paying rent to the evictees after the first 13 months. “Are those who have lost their land and houses in the acquisition responsible for the government’s failure to implement the package within 13 months as initially conceived,” he asked.
