Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala government has asked Centre to release more quota of sugar in view of the Onam festival in the state. Government would be able to increase the quantity of sugar to ration card holders from the existing Half kg if Centre allots more sugar, State Food and Civil Supplies Minister C Divakaran told reporters here Wednesday.
Elaborating the various steps taken by the government to check prices of essential commodities in the festival season Divakaran said all BPL card holders would be given ’Onam Kit’ containing food articles at free of cost. The Kits would have food grains to a total market value of Rs.450, he said.
All APL card holders would be given 15 kg rice at a price of Rs.8.90 per kg during Onam, he said. Besides, this all school students who were enrolled in noon-meal scheme would be given Three KG rice, he said. Nearly 30 lakh families would be benefited through this scheme, he said.
