New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s intervention has resolved the internal crisis within the UDF. The meeting held here on Thursday has decided to give ministerial berth both to Piravom MLA Anoop Jacob and Muslim League leader Manjalamkuzhi Ali.

However, one among the four Muslim League ministers will have to resign to make way for Ali in the state cabinet. The IUML minister who resigns would be fielded for the post of the Kerala Assembly Speaker. The present Speaker of Kerala Assembly, G.Karthikeyan, too would be inducted into the ministry.

Earlier, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee had failed to arrive at a decision on Indian Union Muslim League’s demand for a fifth cabinet berth in the UDF ministry due to resistance from sections within the party. KPCC had then decided to refer the matter to the high command, following which Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala met Sonia Gandhi on Thursday.
