Oman has increased services of its national airline Oman Air to Doha after Qatar faced a crisis, with neighboring countries snapping diplomatic ties. Many GCC and other Arab airlines had halted flights to Qatar. Oman Air said it will add flights to Doha from Wednesday and up to June 14. Passengers to Qatar can fly via Oman.
Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain were among the countries that cut off ties with Qatar early this week and closed their air space. Services to India will also have the ‘Oman touch’ now. Aircraft were crossing UAE air space and flying over Arabian Sea to India. Now, they will fly over Oman air space above Arabian Sea, and via Iran and Pak border to India.
Umrah pilgrims stranded in Doha on Tuesday were flown out via Muscat to Saudi Arabia by Oman Air. Pilgrims from different countries were flown to Muscat on Oman Air flights. They were provided special facilities on board.
Oman Air explained that three chartered flights were pressed into service as requested by Qatar Airways. Pakistan’s Dawn daily had reported that 500 pilgrims from that country were to be taken via Muscat to Saudi. These flights lifted stranded passengers of Qatar Airways and flew them to Muscat. Qatar Airways tweeted that the planes took off for Muscat on Tuesday at 4 pm. and 10 pm.
