State govt soon introduce a welfare scheme for migrant labourers: Minister

Thrissur: The State Government is contemplating a comprehensive welfare scheme for workers in unorganised sector including domestic helps, Minister for Excise and Labour P. K. Gurudasan has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating a welfare scheme for jewellery manufacturers in the State at a function held here on Tuesday. The Minister said the State government would soon introduce a welfare scheme for migrant labourers in the State.He urged the Centre to include members of various employees’ welfare schemes in the Rastriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY).

“At present, only 11 lakh families in the BPL list of 2002 get benefits under the Union Government’s health insurance scheme RSBY. The State Government will request the Centre to include at least 35 lakh families in the State under the scheme,“ he said. Benefits under the new welfare scheme for jewellery manufacturers would include, pension, medical assistance, marriage assistance and education aid.
