Kollam Book Festival begins tomorrow

KOLLAM: The week-long Kollam Book Festival 2009 organised by the Kollam District Library Council will begin at the Kollam Public Library complex here on December 23.Writer M. Mukundan will inaugurate the festival and a meeting in this connection will be inaugurated by Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan.

 Council Chairman R. Anil Kumar and festival convener D. Sukesan said that the venue of the festival has been christened Kamala Surayya Nagar.Mr. Anil Kumar said that around 50 publishers would take part in the festival, in which more than 25,000 books would be displayed. The organisers expect a sale of around Rs. 2 crore.


Various cultural programmes will be organised on all days of the festival.The literary conference on December 24 will be inaugurated by Kollam MP N. Peethambara Kurup. December 25 will be observed as the Kamala Surayya Day and a meeting to commemorate her will be held.December 26 will be observed as Bharat Murali commemoration day and a meeting in this connection will be inaugurated by Education Minister M.A. Baby.The Professor V. Sambasivan Memorial all-Kerala ‘kathaprasanga’ competition will be held on December 27. A second literary conference in connection with the festival will be held on December 28.The programme “we want Malayalam,” to be held on December 29, will be inaugurated by novelist Kakanadan.
