Kottayam police to pursue legal remedies against fake news

The police chief in Kottayam district said he would seek legal remedies against a news portal which published a report about a confrontation between him and a woman police officer.

The Thiruvananthapurambased website had reported that the district superintendent of police and ASP trainee Chaitra Teresa John had locked horns over an incident that happened in Kottayam.

The superintendent of police said in a press release that the report was far removed from reality and some vested interests were propagating the news over social media to tarnish the image of the police. The portal could have asked the police officers or others involved in it before publishing the report, the SP said.
