L10 Pathu Fame Chandini Sreedharan stumps Prithvi on the sets
In KL10 Pathu, Chandini Sreedharan was seen as a modern day, bold Muslim girl. In complete contrast to her previous character, the actress embraces a demure, naadan role in Darwinte Parinamam in which she plays Prithviraj’s wife.
Its director Jiji Anthony says, “Chandini and Prithvi play newly-weds Amala and Anil Anto in the film. Amala is a simple person who works in a press and has a Kollam slang. Anil is a dish TV operator.”
Chandini, who is quite excited about her role, tells us, “While my role was that of a girlfriend in KL10 Pathu, I play a wife in this film. The level of intimacy portrayed on screen is very different.” Apparently, she had to look de-glam to suit her role in the film! “When I was told about the character, I said it can be presented in a makeup-free look. Once the shoot started, the director felt that I wasn’t looking de-glam enough through the camera,” she laughs. “So, my appearance was toned down further by applying makeup to darken the skin under the eyes. But I loved it, as it suited the role and helped me portray it convincingly.”
Chandini is also intrigued and amused by certain terms in her dialogues. “When I was initially given my lines, I saw that Amala calls her husband Achacha! I thought it is a mistake in the script and approached the director, only to learn that it is a commonly used term by wives in Kollam region to address their husbands!”
She says that the director revealed that his own wife calls him so. “While I have heard of usages like achayan, this was new to me. In our first scene, I addressed Prithvi with the term. He was stumped, and soon after the shot, asked me, ‘What did you just call me?’ Apparently, the crew had not told him that is how he will be called, and it was something new for him too!”
Chandini is also happy that she could work with an actor like Prithviraj. “Often, people are judgmental about him and think he has an attitude, while he is, in fact, quite an approachable and friendly person,” she says.
