LDF does not need any support from BJP: CPI

Thrissur: The LDF does not need any support from the Bharatiya Janata Party or the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in the civic polls, CPI district secretary C. N. Jayadevan has said.Addressing a news conference here on Tuesday, the CPI leader, however, said that the LDF would not hesitate to have some electoral understanding with the BJP dissidents led by Sreesan Adiyat.

“It’s part of the Front’s strategy to weaken the BJP,” he said. The organisational set-up of the BJP had already weakened in the district, he said.Asked about BJP district president B. Gopalakrishnan’s statement that the BJP would support non-BJP contenders in places where party candidates are not fielded, Mr. Jayadevan reiterated party’s stand to distance itself from the BJP.“The LDF does not want votes of the BJP or the RSS. The Front’s stand on minority fundamentalist parties will be the same.” He said the LDF was confident of sweeping the forthcoming local body elections.
