Kochi: Police have filed an additional statement in the Kerala High Court that call details of the mobile phone, suspected to have been used by PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani while being lodged in Coimbatore prison, had been collected as part of investigations into the bus burning case in 2005. Madani’s wife, Soofiya, the 10th accused in the burning of Tamil Nadu state-owned bus at nearby Kalamassery, was the ’conspirator and instigator’ in the case, the statement filed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Thrikkakara, P M Varghese said.
Police was verifying those call details now available on records, it was stated. In the statement, police also informed the court that there were 14 accused in bus burning case. Police also told the court that the four absconding accused remains to be arrested and that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had taken over the investigation of the terrorist cases.
The statement was filed on a petition by Raju Puzhanagara seeking to hand over all terror related cases in the state to an independent agency. Meanwhile, the CBI Special Court here today extended the remand of Yusuf, an accused in the 2006 twin blasts in Kozhikode to February 11. The NIA, now investigating the case, had produced Yusuf in the court.
