Heavy rain continued to lash across the southern and central districts of Kerala on Tuesday, causing damage to the coastal areas of Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha.
A depression formed along the Bay of Bengal has caused the downpour in the state. According to the meteorological department, the rain is likely to continue for the next three days.
As many as 20 houses were destroyed in sea erosion in Cheriyathura and Valiyathura in the state capital.
Sea erosion was also reported in Alappuzha where coastal roads have been waterlogged. The district collector has ordered the tehsildars to open up relief camps in Thrikkunnapuzha, where sea water had entered houses.
