Memorial attack: VS trying to shield accused, says Chennithala

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Saturday alleged that the Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan is trying to protect the accused in the case related to the attack on the P. Krishna Pillai memorial. The factionalism in the CPM has forced Achuthanandan to make such a statement, Chennithala said.

Giving a clean chit to the accused like this is injustice to the history. It is the CPM, that should filed a reply to Achuthanandan, Chennithala said and added no matter what happens the probe into the case would continue. More accused will be arrested in connection with the case if there are any, Chennithala said.

Addressing a press meet on Saturday morning V.S. Achuthanandan had criticised CPM’s stance on the action taken by the party against the accused in the attack on memorial and had termed it as a ‘hasty move’.

“Suspending the prime accused in the case, Latheesh B. Chandran, from the party wasn’t a right move,” VS had told reporters after a party meeting on the formation of the inaugural committee for the CPM state meeting, scheduled to be held at Alappuzha in February.

“The CPM acted in a hasty manner in suspending him on the basis of the police report. It was the Congress activists who were involved in the attack on the memorial,” he had stated.

VS had also alleged that the police reports and arrests were part of a ploy of Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, who wanted to portray CPM workers in bad light.
