Kochi: The Milma Saturday decided to recommend raising price of milk by Rs 5 per litre. The price raise was mooted at the Milma program committee meet held here Saturday. The board of directors will discuss the suggestion and make a recommendation to the state government regarding this when they meet in Kozhikode later this month.
According to Milma Kerala produces only five lakh litres of milk out of the 10,30,000 litres that is marketed everyday. A price raise is essential to compensate the losses suffered by milk farmers and to sustain their interest in the sector.
The Milma director board had recommended raising the milk price by Rs 3 per litre six months ago, but the state government has not taken action on it. The Milma Ernakulam region had raised the price of milk unilaterally last month but had to withdraw it later.
