Emmanuel , son of Kaduthuruthy MLA and former minister Mons Joseph, passed away on Sunday in a freak mishap. He was 11.

According to sources, the incident occurred at the MLA’s house at Narimattom at around 10 am. Emmanuel was suffocated to death when he got entangled in the dupatta of a churidar while playing with it.

Emmanuel’s mother Sonia and his sister Maria Mons were at home at that time. They stumbled on the mishap and rushed the boy to private hospital in Muttuchira and but he could not be saved. The body is at present at the mortuary of a private hospital in Kaduthuruthi. A post-mortem was performed at the Medical College Hospital, Kottayam.

Emmanuel was a class five student at Global Public School, Chottanikkara near Mulanthuruthi. His sister Maria Mons, is a class eight student of the same school.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, at St Mary’s Thazhath church, Kaduthuruthi. Emmanuel’s eyes were donated to the medical college hospital.
