KOCHI: The business and trading community will now be able to file their complaints regarding the working of the check posts and Intelligence squads using a 24-hour call centre facility being opened by the Taxes Department.Complaints can initially be filed in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi and English, said the Minister for Finance T. M. Thomas Isaac here on Monday. He was speaking at an interactive session between traders and tax officials.
The Minister said that the new facility would make the operations of the taxes department transparent, quick and effective.There are 76 check posts and 77 Intelligence squads in operation in the State and a total of 12,000 vehicles pass through the check posts every day, said a press handout issued during the interactive session.It said that between 800 and 1,000 cases are detected by the Intelligence squads. There have been complaints regarding the delay at check posts and working of the Intelligence squads.
The interactive voice response system that is used for registering complaints will allot a token number to the complainant.The number will also reach the complainant through an SMS. With it, the complainant will also receive the name and mobile number of the official, who will follow up the case.Details of the complaint, action taken and the time taken for redressing of the complaint will be available on the Taxes Department website.
