Opposition leader should pressure Centre for action against lottery lobby: Issac

ALAPPUZHA: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has said the Congress and Leader of Opposition Oommen Chandy should show resolve not in making the All India Congress Committee take action against Abhishek Manu Singhvi, but in pressuring the Union government into taking action against the lottery lobby.Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Dr. Isaac charged the Congress and Mr. Chandy of repeatedly levelling baseless allegations and thereby attempting to mislead the public.

The Congress, if it was true to its cause, should put pressure on the Centre into taking action against illegal lottery operations in the State, which was what the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government and even the previous UDF government had repeatedly requested the Centre for.

However, Mr. Chandy was saying that Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram had not at all appeared in the Kerala court as counsel for lottery agencies in cases against the State and that his wife, Nalini Chidambaram, had appeared so just once. This was totally false with Mr.Chidambaram having appeared in court once and Ms. Chidambaram, at least a dozen times, proof of which was available.
