Pak wons Champions Trophy: 23 booked in Kasaragod, 3 held in Coorg for celebrating Pak win

The Kerala police Tuesday registered a case against 23 people here for allegedly celebrating Pakistan’s victory over India in the final of Champions Trophy cricket tournament. The Badiyadukka police booked Razaq, Masood and Siraj, all hailing from Kumbadaje, and 20 others after BJP leader Rajesh Shetty filed a complaint. Shetty in his complaint said the accused shouted proPakistan slogans and burst firecrackers Sunday night after Pakistan defeated India in the match by 180 runs.

The accused have been slapped with offenses under IPC 486 and IPC 153 for intentionally trying to create clashes in society.

3 held in Coorg

In a similar incident, the Coorg police arrested three youths in the area for celebrating Pakistan’s victory. The police said the arrested youths were not supporters of any particular political party. They have been charged under IPC 295 (A) for trying to hurt religious sentiments. The police action was based on a complaint by a BJP leader in Coorg. Earlier in the day, 15 people were arrested in Madhya Pradesh for similar offenses.
