Prosecution of V.A Arunkumar recommended in graft case


The Vigilance and Anti-corruption Bureau has recommended to prosecute Opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan’s son V.A. Arunkumar in connection with a bribery case.

The probe officer handed over a report in this regard to Vigilance director. The report points out that Arun Kumar misused his power when he was the Coirfed MD. Action has been recommended against R.K. Ramesh, another relative of VS too.

It was in last December that the VACB registered a case against Arunkumar in connection with alleged financial irregularity during his tenure as managing director of Coir Board, a co-operative enterprise of coir making societies.

A special investigation team, headed by SP S Sasidharan, had filed the FIR before Thiruvuananthapuram Vigilance Court. The probe team had unearthed irregularities to the tune of Rs 47 lakh in connection with the construction of a godown for the company in Cherthala.

R K Ramesh and Mohammadali, a contractor, were arraigned as second and third accused in the case respectively.
