Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and Congress vicepresident Rahul Gandhi Sunday said that the alliance of their parties is aimed at making Uttar Pradesh stronger. Before launching their 12km joint road show, Rahul and Akhilesh addressed a joint press conference.
The leaders were dressed up in similar outfits as they answered journalists’ queries. When quizzed whether he will be the prime minister face as Akhilesh is the chief minister face of the alliance, the Congress leader said, “This is historic alliance. Alliance for Lok Sabha polls is open for discussion.
” In the press meet, Rahul Gandhi likened the alliance to ‘GangaYamuna milan’. “Ek tarah se yahan GangaYamuna ka milan ho raha hai, progress ki Saraswati isme se niklegi. (This alliance is the coming together of GangaYamuna.
The Saraswati of progress will emerge from this),” he said. “This is an alliance of three Ps – progress, prosperity and peace to fight the politics of anger, creating divide and making false promises,” he said. Gandhi said the alliance would ‘fight fascist forces’ such as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ideological parent, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Adding one more ‘P’ to the Ps mentioned by Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav said: “Let me add the fourth P. This will be People’s alliance.” Both leaders said their personal and political relations had got better after the alliance was forged to fight the Uttar Pradesh assembly election starting on February 11. “The CongressSamajwadi Party alliance will make Uttar Pradesh stronger,” Gandhi said.

14 joint rallies
It was the maiden outing of the two leaders since the Congress and SP have stitched up an electoral alliance for the state assembly polls starting from February 11.
The poll campaign carries a tagline UP ko ye saath pasand hai (UP relishes this alliance), and is aimed at telling people that the two parties were their choice as they go to vote. Akhilesh and Rahul Gandhi are likely to address 14 joint rallies.
The two are likely to be joined by Kannauj MP Dimple Yadav and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at select places.
The ‘raths’ and other publicity material of the SP have been improvised and now carry the pictures of Priyanka Gandhi and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi as well.
