Sisters drowned

PATHANAMTHITTA: Two sisters, aged seven and 13, were killed when a car carrying them plunged into the Pampa at Neerettupuram, near Thiruvalla, on Sunday morning.The accident occurred when the girls were taken by their father in their newly purchased Maruti Alto car to a nearby church around 8.20 a.m.

Their father, David V.Thomas, a teacher at TMT High School at Thalavady, near Edathua, had a miraculous escape while the vehicle was sinking in the flooded river.Bodies of the girls, Darshana Maria David, 13, and Donna Maria David, 7, were recovered from the car which was pulled out of the river by the fire force teams after a three-hour search.

Meanwhile, Mr. David consumed poison and was hospitalised in a critical condition, the police said.Darshana was studying in Class VIII at TMT High School, Thalavady, and Donna in Class II at St. George LP School, Muttar.
