Kozhikode: The governing body of Plantation Corporation of Kerala Ltd. (PCK) has expressed strong discontent and angst over the ‘false’ propaganda against the company on the use of Endosulfan.
Addressing a get-together of plantation workers at Swapna Nagari, here, on Sunday, corporation chairman T.J. Anjalose alleged that people with vested interests were circulating baseless allegations against the corporation as if it was responsible for spraying Endosulfan in all the plantations in the State.
The move, aimed at tarnishing the image of the public sector undertaking, should be resisted for the survival of the nearly 4,000-odd families in the sector, he said.“People are now under the impression that even private plantations are run by the PCK. Efforts are also on in full swing to victimise the corporation and cover up the faults of various private giants in the plantation sector who sprayed the pesticide,” Mr. Anjalose said.
He said the corporation was the first government undertaking in the State that came out with concrete measures to ban Endosulfan from its fields from December 2000.Mr. Anjalose said the corporation was ready to offer any rehabilitation package for the Endosulfan victims in Kasaragod.
The suggestions of the government would be given due consideration, he added.Addressing the gathering, N.K. Manoj, managing director of the corporation, said the corporation did not have any vested interest in using Endosulfan in its fields in those days.
