Kozhikode: The Kerala unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday unanimously elected its vice president V. Muraleedharan as its new state president.His election was a foregone conclusion as his was the only nomination received. National vice president of the party Shahnawaz Hussain announced the decision at a state meeting of the party here.
Senior BJP leader P.P. Mukundan had said on Monday that he is under pressure from party workers to contest the elections, but he backed out on Tuesday. Muralidharan who was elected Wednesday is largely considered an RSS protege and had the backing of both the state and the central leadership of the party.
