A CPM worker was killed as bombs were hurled at party workers who were celebrating the LDF’s victory in Dharmadom constituency on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as CV Raveendran (55) of Pinarayi.

The Kannur collector has imposed section 144 in Kannur district from 7.30 pm on Thursday to Friday. CPM politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan had emerged winner from Dharmadam constituency defeating Congress’ Mambarama Divakaran by a margin of by 36,905 votes. BJP’s Mohanan Mananthery came third garnering a total of 12763 votes.

Raveendran, who was taking part in the CPM celebrations along with others, fell off the vehicle as RSS workers allegedly hurled bomb at them. The injured Raveendran was also hit by a lorry, reports said.

Though he was rushed to Thalassery hospital, his life could not be saved. His son was also injured in the attack. To protest this attack, LDF has called for a hartal in Kottayam, Vengad, Pinarayi and Dharmadam panchayats in Kannur from 2.00 pm till 6.00 pm on Friday.

As the assembly polls’ results came out on Thursday, making it a clean sweep for the CPMled LDF, several parts of the state witnessed violent clashes.

At Kanjiram in Kottayam’s Thiruvarppu, five CPM workers were allegedly hacked by BDJS supporters. The injured, Anoop P. Raj (30), Sarun Santhosh (24), Praveen Thampi (30) and Sudhi (25) were admitted to Kottayam medical college.

Meanwhile, the district collector declared section 144 in Kasaragod, Manjeswaram and Kanhangad taluks following clashes between workers of Muslim League and CPM. The bike of a CPM worker was set ablaze while stones were pelted at the League’s office. In Munnar, LDF and UDF activists clashed during CPM’s S.

At Ambadimukku in Kannur, a BJP worker’s car was¬†vandalised and houses of Congress, BJP workers were attacked at Pallikkunnu. In Kozhikode, violence occurred at several parts including Thiruvalloor, Onchiyam and Villyappally.

An office of the RMP and a bus waiting shed were vandalised at Kunnummakkara in Onchiyam.
