THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The first phase of the action plan for developing the Vizhinjam port will be launched on August 11, Minister for Ports, Law and Parliamentary Affairs M. Vijayakumar has said. While replying to questions in the Assembly on Thursday, Mr. Vijayakumar said that the first phase comprised development work costing Rs.450 crore. Mr. Vijayakumar, who deputised for Industries Minister Elamaram Karim, said a development plan for Rs.88 crore had been envisaged for the Transformers and Electricals Limited Kerala (TELK) at Angamaly. The Airports Authority of India had okayed the State government’s proposal to provide land for developing the BrahMos Aerospace factory here. Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran said that construction of 23 check-dams would be completed this year.
