The teenager was brutally assaulted by a pan vendor and his accomplices on Wednesday night. The pan vendor has been taken into custody by the Delhi police.
The student was returning from a tuition class, when he was accosted by the pan vendor, who accused him of stealing. Rajat was then brutally beaten up by the vendor and his accomplices at a nearby park in Mayur Vihar.
There were three other Keralite students with him when the incident happened, Manorama News reported. While his friends escaped, Rajat was left at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital in an unconscious state allegedly by the attackers.
Victim’s kin claim police inaction
Meanwhile, some channels alleged that no action was initiated by the Delhi police to find the culprits even hours after the child was brutally assaulted. The alleged attacker even opened his pan shop on Thursday morning.
It was only after strong protests from Delhi Malayali Association members against this police inaction that the owner was taken in for questioning. Delhi police comes under the purview of the central government.
