Putting more pressure on the party, even as the CPM state meet is on here, veteran leader VS Achuthanandan has returned to Thiruvananthapuram.
He left Alappuzha by 3.30am and is in his official residence Cantonement House now.
Sources close to Achuthanandan said that he would return to Alappuzha only if the party comes for a compromise on the issues he has raised. He is likely to resign from the post of Opposition leader in the wake of the escalating tensions between him and a large section of the party leaders.
With this, the central leadership of the party has strengthened its attempts to cool down the senior leader.
Meanwhile, party state secretariat member M. Vijayakumar said that they were unaware of VS leaving Alappuzha.
P. Jayarajan said that he came to know about it through media only.
VS had walked out of the state meet on Saturday as delegates unleashed severe criticism against him during discussions.
