PALAKKAD: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said that the wrong policies of the Union government that has brought hardship to people, particularly those of Kerala, should be discussed during the campaign for the local body polls.
At an election meeting organised by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) at Koottupatha, near Chandranagar, here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said the pro-rich policy of the Union government was making life miserable for the poor, especially from skyrocketing prices for essential commodities. The frequent increase in the price of petroleum products resulted in price rise of almost all consumer goods and other items. This made life miserable for the common man.
P. Unni, district secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), and A. Prabhakaran, district secretary of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), spoke.Earlier, addressing another meeting at Shoranur, the Chief Minister said the LDF government had provided rice at Rs.2 a kg to 40 lakh people in the State. It had provided houses to the houseless. Many other welfare measures for the poor were implemented.
